Mental Self Help – What You See Is What You Get
What You See Is What You Get or WSYWIG is a term that is usually associated with computers. It means that what you see on the computer screen corresponds exactly to the final appearance of the document or object you are trying to create. What you may not realise is that this principle is as old as mankind – what you see on the ‘screen’ of your mind is the results that you will get in your life. Find out more…
You can tell a lot about a person by the things they surround themselves with. The clothes they wear, their car, their house, the friends they keep are just some examples. Their outer world has a strong correspondence to their inner world. It also works the other way round – you can change your outer world by changing the inner world of your thoughts and the pictures that you carry around with you in your mind.
You form thousands of pictures in your mind every day. You may not even be aware of a lot of them, they just flash through your mind in an instant. For example, if you’re trying to recognise someone you’ve just met, you will form pictures of familiar faces to compare them with.
You form pictures about everything that is important to you – where you’re going on holiday this year, what your house should look like, what sort of car you dream about… Unfortunately you probably also form pictures about negative things – things you are afraid might happen, things that you are worried about and things that you don’t want to happen in your life.
Your subconscious mind tries to fulfil your every wish!
Your subconscious mind is a powerful servant that does what you tell it to do when you give it instructions. It understands pictures and emotions and it tries to find ways to bring those things into your life.
Of course you’re making thousands of pictures every day, so you’re subconscious mind only pays attention to the pictures that you show it most often and that you attach most emotion to. The bad news is that if you are regularly showing your subconscious mind lots of bad pictures associated with strong negative emotions, for example failing an exam coupled with the fear of failure, it will try to help you achieve these goals.
You can change your future with a little mental self help. If you change the pictures you form in your mind and you add emotions to them, you will start your subconscious mind on the process of fulfilling your dreams. The pictures you form will be of you satisfying your deepest desires and purpose. The emotions will be positive emotions – happiness, pride, fulfilment, love…
Forming positive pictures is a process that is referred to as visualization. The best way to do visualize is to set aside some time every day where you can consciously form pictures in your mind and attach strong emotions to them in a safe, comfortable environment.
Before you start using visualization you should prepare what you want to see in your mind. Think about what you really want, write it down in terms of pictures and feelings. That’s all you need to do. One trick is to write down a day in the life of your dreams like a movie script. You can run that movie through your head every time you visualize.
The pictures that you form on the screen of your mind have a strong effect on the world that you will create for yourself in the future. You can intervene in the creation of your future by using visualization to form pictures of the things that you want to see in your life.
